I have compiled and run FreeS/WAN 1.92 with Mandrake 8.1.
Didn't have any problems.

However, I don't run the stock Mandrake kernel on those
machines, and I built against a kernel 2.4.17 tree from kernel.org.

I never tried building against the mandrake kernel source tree,
so I have no idea if that would work for me, or break in the
same way yours does.
