FreeS/wan has both user commands, and patches to the kernel. You can't
run with a stock kernel from RedHat and have things work.
Did you install the kernel and let GRUB know about the new kernel so you
can boot it?
(Sorry if I missed another part of the threat. I'm a newbie with
FreeS/WAN myself, but did get the basics working with the new kernel and
user-space tools)
