HELP!! I am stuck!

I am getting the following error when I do

make dep

*** No rule to make target '/usr/src/linux/include/linux/autoconf.h' needed
by 'usr/src/linux/include/modules/signal.ver'. Stop

in the /usr/src/linux directory. I followed the instructions and installed
the kernel-headers and kernel-source rpms.

I am using Red Hat 7.1. I also did a

make mrproper

BEFORE I did make dep. Used the i586 config while which I copied into
/usr/src/linux/.config

Thanks for your help.
