Hi,

You must create the /etc/ipsec.d/ directory and subdirectories yourself. I
understand that FreeS/WAN v1.97 now creates this directory for you when it
has been patched with the X509 v0.9.10 patch, and you use 'make install'

I used the document written by Nate Carlson to get my X509 setup working,
the URL for this is
http://www.natecarlson.com/include/showpage.php?cat=linux&page=ipsec-x509.

Good luck !

Andy
