[Users] [Announce] New FreeS/WAN epostcard list for Distribution issues

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

We would like to announce the creation of a new list for the Linux
FreeS/WAN project, one dedicated to the needs of Linux Distribution
Maintainers and there needs with respect to the work the FreeS/WAN
project does.

The idea for this list is to provide a forum for the folks who
create and maintain the various 'distributions' of Linux that might
include Linux FreeS/WAN and to discuss their particular needs with
respect to IPsec, DNSsec, VPN, Opportunistic Encryption etc.
Hopefully _all_ Linux distributions some day will have Linux FreeS/WAN
in them, or at least _some_ OE capable IPsec!

Distro maintainers should be able to subscribe to this list only and
none of our other lists should be required, though subscribing to the
bugs list might give early warning of possible problems. We will
subscribe this list to our announce list and thus maintainers should
be fully informed via a single list subscription.

Since the target audience are busy people, one goal of this list is
to be low volume, maybe ten or twenty posts per month except when
there is a relevant hot topic being discussed by the maintainers
themselves.
Note that detailed discussions about design will get moved to the
design list, to keep the posting volume down on distro.

Example topics that would be resonable for this list include:

What FreeS/WAN needs todo such that distro's can ship with
IPsec enabled and OE up and running.

Packaging methods and code security for:
                - RPM
                - .deb's
                - Encap
                - others?

        File location flexibility
Where to install commands, configs files, etc. and why.

        Kernel code integration
How to generate the appropriate kernel code, patches etc.

Runtime dependancies on other packages, including:
                - Bootscripting
                - Kernel dependancies - what FreeSWAN/KLIPS needs
                - Firewall interaction(s)
                - libraries

        Compile time dependancies:
                - libgmp-devel
                - libdns (bind9)
                - make, autoconf (why we do not use this), etc.

Integration issues arround third party patches

While anyone can subscribe to, and thus read the distro list, only
maintainers and core FreeS/WAN people will get to post on this list,
once again to keep the posting volume down.

If you think you should be added to the list of posters, please send
<listmanager_at_freeswan.org> email asking to be added to the list of
posters for the distro epostcard list.
