RE: [Users] Linksys BEFVP41 router

Preliminary Information:

1. It does not like PFS. This is bad...

I would get an error, basiclly saying that only 1024 bit and 15something bit
pfs was supported. I think this may be a bug in the vpn router. I have yet
to upgrade the image.

2. It perfers des, and allways trys des first. Seems the most recent image
has more options for the phase 1 and 2 proposals. Sad thing is... they
also support pptp vpn client on the router in the newer images.

It seems that the connection should be able to work with some slight
tweeking. Will post more info when I get a chance.

I do not know, I was planning on asking the list the same thing tonight. I'm
planning on picking one up tomarrow and playing with it.

>From what I have read, it will do, preshared keys and manually keyed
connections. I think we must consider the market linksys targets... and
also consider that a linksys router is not a dual p3 1ghz with a gig of ram,
so personally, preshared keys are fine with me. Perhaps one day when isps
start using dnssec.... we could find linksys vpn routers quietly encrypting
lots of traffic.... why else sport the ability to have 70 active ipsec
conns.....

Subject: [Users] Linksys BEFVP41 router

Hi,

Does anybody have any experience with getting the Linksys BEFVP41
EtherFast Cable/DSL VPN router to work with a FreeSWAN 1.95 gateway?

It looks like the Linksys device only supports preshared keys (!), can
that really be true! If this is indeed the case, I consider it quite
poor for a commercial VPN router. But preshared keys are anyway
supported in FreeSWAN, so it could still be possible for a
Linksys/FreeSWAN system to work?

Thanks for any info,
Claus
