RE: [Users] Virus in Mailinglist

I am one of the administrators/postmasters/whatever of one of the auto
replying mail servers (in fact, there is another admin also on this list..
(hey jarbob... am I getting lunch today?)). It would be more effective to
close the list from outside messages. The auto replys are properly
configured, its just how mailing list systems mangles the email, it ends up
coming to the list.... *shrug*. I keep the "yo, you sent a virus to me"
notices going, even though they are generating significant traffic on my
mail servers as a courtesy to those who have been infected and do not know
it. I fear /usr/sbin/mailq on my outside relay.....

Virii in the mailing list are annoying. BUT even more so is the ton of
automatic replies that get sent to the list as a result of it. Would the
mailing list administrators please send a warning to the postmasters of
the relevant domains and politely (the first time) ask them to configure
their virus scanners properly, so that they do not send virus warnings to
mailing lists (to this one, at very least)? As to the ones who do not
respond, please do blacklist them until they learn the lesson! Recently as
much as 2/3 of the mailing list traffic (on some days) was due to this
damned automatic replies.

Thanks, and sorry for overreacting (just a bit)
Giacomo
