Well, that depends. For example you can buy POP3 accounts out there for
something around $3 / month including virus checking.

So the routing would be,

  1) forward incoming mail to linux-ipsec_at_freeswan.org to the POP3 box
  2) let the email be checked there and let the virusnotification only be sent
to the sender
  3) forward mail to mailinglist account for linux-ipsec_at_freeswan.org
  4) then the mail gets processed by the mailinglist manager and gets
distributed to all of us.

No, because all list admins should have considered this beforehand. The costs
for hosting such a server like freeswan.org are above $3/month anyway.

I, myself, am listadmin of some lists too, but no list distributes mail
without checking and filtering before!! (and I pay for the server and the
viruschecking)
This all is only necessary as a result of Outlook users.
(btw you can modify Outlook so it wont execute virusmails anymore, just for
those who need to know.)

and thats why i got your mail?
or
thats why we all receive virus mails?

Yes, so what? If there is a false positive the sender gets a notification and
can try again. Anyway if your mail is plain text you wont have much trouble
with false positives.

that is not the core problem, the core problem are the virus mails and the
resulting problem are the auto replies. imho fighting core problems is more
promising for stability in the future than fighting the symptoms
