The root cause is broken mailers. Stop using them.
The principle behind your claim is analogous to people wanting ISPs to
be responsible for the IP packets passing through their routers (OMG
they're distributing child pornography, sue them!).
A mailinglist is a communication channel. The sender is responsible for
the data he/she sends. Not the communication channel.
Now, a virus scanner may be a nice addition - sure. A feature. But
certainly not a requirement.

A members-only policy is a good idea, I agree.

Why should I? It sounded as if you were a victim yourself. I didn't
bother to check. And besides, the 50 mailinglist remarkk was onlyu
intenden to show that I had experience with mailinglists - which was
relevant since I claim no other mailinglists I was on employed an
automatic virus scanner.

I know. Stop patronizing me.
If you're using mutt, what's your problem anyway?

Neither do the ones I'm on. But it's not because they are using a virus
scanner.
