Well, perhaps you have to learn something new, since the mailinglists are a
good media to distribute virii there should be a protecting shield around it,
for preventing spreading the virii.

This can be done with a scanner or as John Hardin suggested with some strict
filtering rules like: no attachments, no executables, no scripts (or what so
ever) AND having this mailinglist members only, which is also standard to
prevent SPAM.

Since you say that you are such an advanced user and are subscribed to 50+
lists, why havent you looked in the header of my emails and found it out on
your own? Oh btw you can configure Mutt the way that it always shows you the
User-Agent or X-Mailer field. ;-)

I am also subscribed to many other lists and NONE is having such virus / worm
problems!
