This doesn't sound like a FreeS/WAN problem per se; given
that you can ping machines on the remote network, it sounds
like the tunnel is up and working.
As for firewalling, I don't think you are firewalling the
ipsec connection; unless you explicitly declare otherwise,
the ipsec connection is not secured, as it travels through
its own interface. As well, Snapgear gives instructions on
how to firewall the ipsec tunnel itself, implying that it's
not turned on by default.

You may want to turn to Snapgear itself with some of these
support issues as well, but I suspect your issue is not with
connectivity, but rather your machine reolving the name of the
PDC or being able to reach it across the subnet. Try searching
through some Win2k networking posts.
