To save anyone out there some frustration, you may need the X.509 patch for
SSH sentinel (I've never worked with it), but you do not need it to connect
with normal windows 2000 ipsec policies.

You bet. :)

It's been proven to work fine with SSH Sentinel [www.ipsec.com] and with
the client built in to Windows 2000/XP [vpn.ebootis.de]. The 'simple'
connection profile for a road warrior would look like:

conn rw
        left=%defaultroute
        leftsubnet=xx.xx.xx.xx/xx
        right=%any
        auto=add

Note that you'll need to be using the X.509 patch for this to work easily.
