[Users] freeswan idle problem

From: Roger Hardwicke (rogerch_at_spiderintertech.com)

I have set up a VPN between two sites. Everything works fine, except if
the circuit is completely idle (idle= in ipsec look output) for about
500 seconds, then nothing can get through until the VPN connection is
"hit" (for example, with pings) from both sides. pinging from one side
only will not resurrect the connection.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is there any way to configure
freeswan so that connections won't go "idle" like this? I have yet to
see anything in documentation about this problem or feature.

Thanks,

Roger
