In general, that response means that ipchains has not been
enabled in the kernel. Since you're using a 2.4.x series kernel, you
can only use iptables and netfilter; however, you can enable ipchains
(2.2-style) support as an Netfilter option. You can compile in masquerading
support in the same kernel configuration section.
