I can't tell definitely without more detailed error messages, but it
sounds like you booted the standard RedHat kernel instead of the new
FreeSWAN kernel, and hence pluto could not find Klips in the kernel and
aborted.

However, this is surprising if you are booting the redhat kernel. Perhaps

If the RPM only includes klips as a module (rpm -ql freeswan... shows
"/lib/modules/.../ipsec.o" but not "/boot/vmlinuz..." in the file list)
then it will need the matching kernel from RedHat (probably
kernel-2.4.9-13).
