Hello,
AFAIK the 3com card offloads the encryption to the card from the CPU.
This is done by using a special driver, which again AFAIK only exists
for Windows. Really, If the system is going to be a dedicated VPN system
offloading the encryption to the card won't make much (if any)
difference.
