[Users] Encryption Overheads

hello,

One of our client wants to implement VPN connections between it's various branches and we have suggested them a solution using Freeswan. But they want the following clarified before they accept our solution.

Since thier Service Provider who provides connectivity between thier various branches charges them on the basis of data transfer, my client likes to know the performance overhead generated by IPSEC / Freeswan on the basis of data traffic.

I had gone through the Performance docs provided in the Freeswan site and also thru certain other postings in the Freeswan mail listing archive. They were mainly concentrated on the overheads on the CPU and not in terms of data traffic.

I would like to know how can i measure or calculate the same.

Thanking you in advance,

Regards

Iyer Anantharaman
