I've had various problems with FreeS/WAN <-> X for various values of X.
One thing I try if I can't get any debug info out of X is to try
OpenBSD <-> X since isakmpd (and the IPsec implementation in general)
on OpenBSD is more mature and fully featured than FreeS/WAN. If I can
get OpenBSD <-> X to work then I can sometimes workout what the
FreeS/WAN <-> X problem is by comparing the pluto and isakmpd log
files.
