Hi,
Some time ago I successfully configured a linux roadwarrior with
freeswan gateway to a linux/windows subnet. all seemed to work fine
until i tried to mount a drive/share on my roadwarrior. i noticed very
strange behaviour - everything seemed to work as expected when there
were very few files/directories on the mount - less than 10 - and i
could read/write the files no problem - but as soon as there were more
than this arbitrary default say 20 or 2000 i could not even get a
listing of the contents - the system just seemed to hang.
well i thought this was strange - i posted a message to the list and
got no reply - but i thought to myself all the roadwarriors i shall be
configuring in the future are windoze boxes so i shall ignore this
wierdness and try and set up a win2k roadwarrior. i have at last
managed to do that (i have a static ip for the roadwarrior just for
testing which is on the same subnet as the gateway - which caused some
problems which i have only recently overcome with sam sgro's input.)
So everything seemed to be working - i use a wins over the network boundary
through the VPN and get all the computers on the subnet behind the
gateway listed in network neighbourhood on the win2k roadwarrior -
wonderful. so then i try and read some files - and guess what? i get
exactly the same behaviour as i experienced from the linux box - if
there are only a few files/directories in the share/mount i can
read/edit no problem - any more than say 10 i get a timeout - network
name no longer available error!!!! what gives? anyone come accross
this behaviour? anyone got a solution? have i just got some wierd
setting i need to fiddle with?
the two machines that exhibited this problem are totally different.
one was running linux mandrake 8.2 (p2 350mhz processor) the other
win2k sp3 (p3 500mhz processor).
any help would be great
cheers
stuart
