I don't think so. Microsoft has a free Win95/98/ME/NT client that does
L2TP/IPSec. You should be able to get this working with your current
setup without having to patch and compile stuff. It uses 3 or 4 things,
though, so it's manifold times more complex to setup and manage than a
pure IPSec solution (i.e., FreeS/WAN). You will need FreeS/WAN, an L2TP
server/client implementation for Linux, and pppd. PPP is used to create
an IP "tunnel" on top of the L2TP connection that rides inside the IPSec
tunnel established to FreeS/WAN. You will see some performance
degradation compared to just an IPSec tunnel, but if you want free...
It looks like the L2TP server implementation from Roaring Penguin seems
to be the most complete and well documented implementation out there
that I have seen. Haven't taken the time to set it up, though.
Obviously, another solution would be to have them all use Linux. :)
Then you don't have any of these kinds of problems, and it all "just works".
