You will need to patch the kernel. Run "make kpatch
KERNELSRC=/path/to/src" I believe is the correct way to do what you need.

You need a kernel source tree *somewhere* to build them against, but it
doesn't have to be /usr/src/linux. Then "make insert
KERNELSRC=/path/to/src" to insert the IPSEC_CONFIG_* bits into your
.config, and then run "make oldmod KERNELSRC=/path/to/src"
